Department of Astronomy and Space Sciences was established with the initiatives of Prof.Dr. İbrahim KÜÇÜK by the decision of the Higher Education Institution (YÖK) dated 17.02.1998. The department received its first students in the 2003-2004 academic year and started its education activities with 29 undergraduate students. In the 2006-2007 Academic Year, the Master's Program was opened. The PhD. Program was also opened in 2014 and education began as of the Spring Semester of the 2014-2015 Academic Year. In our department we have 1 Professor, 4 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors together with 1 Lecturer working at UZAYBIMER and 1 Research Assistant with PhD.

Currently, one of our faculty members is working as the Deputy Secretary General in Asia Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO)-China.
